NEARSHORE CACILHAS PORTUGAL – PILE MONITORING

NEARSHORE CACILHAS, PORTUGAL

PILE MONITORING

CASE

In February 2024, Seth awarded Geoproviders the job of monitoring the 320mm diameter pile in Cacilhas, Portugal. This pile served as a test to characterise the driveability of future permanent piles in the absence of boreholes in their localisation in the water.
The permanent OD 1200mm piles will be driven to relocate the Cacilhas river terminal, which will receive the future electrical jet vessels for the Tejo crossing.

TASK

The driving was performed with a hydraulic ABI 2-ton ram hammer. A vibro-hammer initiated the driving operation.
The scope of work comprised supplying PDI above water sensors to collect and quality-check signal data during driving and post-analysis signal matching performed by Geoproviders.
The idea was to characterise the geotechnical soil properties, predict any possible pile refusal, and pile stresses during driving.

RESULTS

The work was conducted smoothly, and the customer’s goals were achieved by providing the required analysis for future design pile certification.
