Caspian Sea Gas Platform
ABSHERON EPS PROJECT
G-OCTOPUS – DEME OFFSHORE
PILE MONITORING EPS PLATFORM
CASE
Absheron EPS Project, located in the Caspian Sea, offshore Azerbaijan, comprised the installation of one gas receiving platform (EPS platform), composed of four separate jackets, a venting platform, a vented bridge, and a piers bridge supported by five jackets.
TASK
The contractor BOS-SHELF awarded G-Octopus, part of DEME Group, the service of Pile Driving Monitoring and on-board signal matching. Working then for DEME, the Geoproviders founder was responsible for one of the offshore campaigns.
In close collaboration with Saipem, the main contractor, we provided the following scope of work:
- Provision of equipment suitable for above-water pile instrumentation using two strain gauges and two piezoresistive accelerometers.
- Installation of the sensors before pile upending and stabbing operations.
- Measure relevant parameters during pile driving, including real-time force and acceleration.
- Onboard analysis of data and evaluation of acceptance criteria include the signal matching analysis (using CAPWAP® software) for static pile capacity.
- Preliminary report issued within 4 hours after the End of Driving (EOD).
RESULTS
The onboard analysis and reports were provided quickly, preventing any subsequent operations delay.
The retrieved data and our observations of the working operation during driving improved the piling operation methodology.
